National Drug Commission chief executive Derrick Binns has been invited to speak at the Americas-Asia conference, to be held in Peru.

Dr. Binns said: "This invitation tells us that the work of the NDC is recognised internationally.

"Other countries are interested in our approach to alcohol and other drug issues.

"We are planning to place a greater emphasis on risk and protective factors for drug use and on community development.'' The conference -- Global Initiatives on Drug Demand Reduction -- is sponsored by the Japanese Embassy and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the US Embassy in Peru.
