Paget condo owners threaten legal action
Strawberry Hill Company Limited, which is developing $450,000-plus condominiums in Paget.
However, the company, whose major financial backer is American, may face further action from a group of five new owners of the condominiums who are concerned that a promised pool and tennis courts have not yet been built.
The group's lawyer, Mr. Darcy Lord, said yesterday they would consider taking action if work does not start on the pool and tennis courts in three to six months.
He said the condominium owners bought the units in 1989 and had expected there would be a pool and tennis courts by the end of 1990.
But Strawberry Hill Company spokesman, Mr. Tom Coughlin yesterday assured that construction on the amenities plus six more condominiums would start this summer. There are presently nine condominiums on the property which have all been sold.
Mr. Coughlin said local market conditions and Government constraints on bringing in US funding were responsible for the hold-up.
But he said the market was stabilising and local funding was now available for the project.
"Hopefully the issue of the pool and tennis courts will be resolved within the next six months,'' he said.
The winding-up petition was filed when Strawberry Hill Company defaulted on a mortgage payment to the bank.
But the money owed has since been paid and the bank withdrew the petition in Supreme Court last week and stated it was no longer the banker for Strawberry Hill Company.
