Proposing a toast to a new brew
modified to suit local tastes.
The spiciness of the Spinnaker beer, produced by Bermuda Triangle Brewing Ltd., apparently did not appeal to Bermudians not used to the bite of a wheat beer yeast.
As a result, brewmeister Mr. Marko Saager switched from buying the wheat from the Moy Hofbrauhaus, in Munich, in favour of a pure yeast strain from the Wissenschaftliche, making the Spinnaker a lot lighter tasting.
Yesterday, after weeks of work refining the beer for local tastes it was officially re-introduced to the Island.
Company president Mr. Paul Mason, said: "One of the advantages of being a small Bermudian-owned micro brewery is that it puts us closer to our customers.
"We see our customers every day and when they talk to us they're talking to the same people who make the beer.'' He added: "We've heard from a lot of beer drinkers over the last few months and they've been telling us they wanted a lighter tasting Spinnaker. Well, we've changed, and we've changed to meet Bermudian tastes.'' The brewery, which was only established last December brewing hand-crafted beers, also produce an amber ale called Wilde Hogge and Full Moon, a pale ale.
"All the beers seem to be going very well,'' added Mr. Mason. "We've got the pale ale in eight or nine places and most of the bars on the Island are taking the other two.'' CHEERS! -- Assistant brewer Mr. Andrew Mackay, left, and brewmeister Mr Marko Saager toast the refined Spinnaker Beer.
