Some shops to open on Christmas Eve
retail stores will open their doors on the day of Christmas Eve.
Retail Division of the Chamber of Commerce chairman George Grundmuller said his company, Phoenix Stores, anticipates a really busy day.
He said the bigger department stores have staffing problems and probably will not be open.
"For them it's more difficult. Initially, there was thought to be good support earlier in the year.
"But some people realised they couldn't get the staff,'' he said. "We are excited about it. It gives every parent and family the last chance to shop for that last minute gift.'' Major department stores HA&E Smith's and Trimingham's confirmed they will be closed on Sunday although Trimingham's branch stores will remain open. The Bermuda Book Store will also be open.
Groceries like the Supermart, MarketPlace and Arnold's will be open the regular Sunday hours but asked customers to remember they cannot sell alcohol on Sundays.
