BASE FACES MOCK AIRCRAFT ATTACK MIL Base faces mock aircraft attack It will be battle stations today at the United States Naval Air Station.

For the Base will come under a lightning attack from the air.

The strike force will include four AV-8 Harriers, two EA-6B electronic warfare aircraft, and three KC-130 tankers.

But residents need not panic -- for the increased activity will only be a training drill.

USNAS spokeswoman Ens. Marie McGahan said the simulated strike would happen at around 3 p.m.

"This is only a training drill and residents should not be alarmed by the sudden increase in aircraft traffic at the Air Station.'' People in the area of Castle Harbour or Ferry Reach may experience some noise, she said.

"It will be really brief, just a few minutes. The aircraft will swoop in and leave. There will be no firing.'' SENATE CUSTOMS ATTACK CRITICISED SEN Senate customs attack criticised Opposition Senators who slammed the Collector of Customs came under fire themselves this weekend.

Finance Minister the Hon. David Saul said criticism of Mr. Gerry Ardis flouted the political convention of not launching personal attacks on civil servants.

Mr. Ardis was blasted last Wednesday by Sen. Trevor Woolridge and Senate Opposition Leader Sen. Alex Scott.

Sen. Woolridge said Mr. Ardis's attitude was wrong, and he was not setting an example to younger Customs officers.

Criticism mainly centred on a complaint by Bermudian Mr. Danny Cannonier, who is demanding action to restore damage to the $85,000 yacht he was delivering.

But yesterday Dr. Saul said he was "very surprised'' at the attack on Mr.

Ardis. "It violated a code we don't attack senior civil servants,'' he added.
