The Maltese-registered motor tanker Gonio , carrying a cargo of vegetable and soya bean oil, arrived in Bermuda on Sunday afternoon and was escorted to Commercial Berth by two tug boats, Meyer Agencies reported.

Enroute from New Orleans, USA to Cyprus, she is expected to remain 15 days in the West End for general engine repairs. A Meyer shipping agent said her captain was flying in spare parts all week. Meyer Industries is carrying out the repairs.

Meyer also reported the arrival of the Somers Isles shortly after 8 a.m. on New Year's Day. She discharged 73 containers, including four refrigerated ones. She sails at 3 p.m. today.

The Bermuda Islander arrived on Monday at 2.30 p.m. carrying 88 containers, including five refrigerated ones, an oxygen truck for the hospital, a utility trailer and a 60-foot mast for a yacht. She departed about noon on Tuesday.

And the bi-weekly US military supply ship Strong Icelander berthed alongside Marginal Wharf this week to offload general cargo for the US Naval Air Station before heading for her next stop, the Azores.

The 1981-launched Perry Class guided-missile frigate berthed in Dockyard on Friday and left the same day. The versatile ship has surface-to-air-and-surface capabilities and can operate two helicopters.
