Telco and Belco take exchange by storm
yesterday, driving the Exchange Index to 1,038 (up by 32.15 points) -- its ninth consecutive record high.
Telco's shares jumped by 12 percent ($3.75) to close at $35, with a volume of 1,314. In total, $45,990 worth of Telco stock was traded.
Belco's shares went up by $2.50, with a volume of 9,386 brining the total value of Belco stock traded to $211,185.
Bids of $9 for Bermuda Press stock -- $2 higher than the last traded price -- had found no takers for the previous two weeks, but someone finally decided to sell yesterday, with $9,000 of the firm's shares changing hands.
Bermuda Broadcasting stock traded for the first time in almost two and a half years, dropping by $1.25 to close at $5.50, with a volume of 300.
Stevedoring Services stock plummeted by 38.5 percent ($2.50) to $4, with a volume of 200.
Shares in the Bank of Bermuda continued their recent march upwards, climbing by another 50 cents to close at $41.50, with a volume of 3,256.
The Bank of Butterfield's stock remained unchanged for the fourth week running, closing at $27, with a volume of 3,530.
Not even the management in charge of run-off firm Bermuda Fire & Marine Insurance know who has been buying heavy volumes of shares in the company recently.
Another 48,787 shares changed hands yesterday, although at five cents per share, this represented a value of just $2,439.
In total, shares and bonds worth $547,001 were traded.
