The Bermuda Stock Exchange index climbed 49.18 points or 3.28 percent, after major slides in recent weeks.

It settled at 1,546.9 after the trading yesterday of 24,954 shares, valued at $718,520.75. Advances led declines three to one.

Bank of Bermuda rose $1.875 (5.6 percent) to $35.625 on a volume of 15,532, while Bank of Bermuda Warrants shot up $2.50 (21.7 percent) to $14 on a volume of 1,000. Bank of Butterfield rose $0.875 to $15.875 on a volume of 3,000.

BELCO Holdings was the sole decliner, losing $1.25 (5.4 percent) and falling to $21.75 on a volume of 5,422.
