Thousands cruise in on luxury liners

The Song of America berthed in Hamilton on Tuesday with 1,345 passengers. She moved to St. George's yesterday and will leave the Island today, John S.

The Horizon ,from New York City, docked in Hamilton on Monday morning carrying 1,399 passengers, Meyer Agencies said. She shifted to St. George's yesterday and will leave later today. The Dreamward , brought to the Island by Meyer Agencies, berthed in St. George's on Monday with 1,263 passengers and moved to Hamilton on Tuesday morning. She sails this afternoon. The Meridian arrived at the King's Wharf in Dockyard yesterday, bringing 776 passengers. She leaves for Philadelphia tomorrow.

A woman who had suffered a heart attack while at sea was brought to Bermuda by the Humboldt Express , which anchored briefly at Five Fathom Hole. She was resting comfortably, a spokesman for John S. Darrell reported yesterday.

An Italian ferry, the Elba Express , on her way from Guadeloupe to Italy, spent last Thursday and Friday in Bermuda while it refuelled.

A German training vessel, a three-masted tall ship schooner, the Fridtjof Nansen arrived yesterday morning from Havana, Cuba. The boat is run by a German charity with 43 people on board.

The container ship the MV Oleander carrying 167 containers, 40 of them refrigerated, docked in Hamilton on Sunday. Parts for a Belco turbine, and heavy steel construction material were among the cargo on board.

The ship also brought in a container truck, an oxygen truck for King Edward Memorial Hospital, and two delivery trucks, Container Ship Management said.

The Somers Isle arrived from Fernandina Beach, Florida, bringing 70 containers to the island. A spokesman from Meyer Agencies reported that among the loose cargo was construction material, a motor boat and a Boston Whaler.

The Bermuda Islander arrived on Monday morning, Meyer Agencies said. Along with the 79 containers were several boats and some construction material. The Trones brought gravel to the Island yesterday from Nova Scotia. It docked at Penno's Wharf in St. George's and left today for Charleston, South Carolina.
