Tyco in top 100
managed manufacturing companies in the world.
The list produced by IndustryWeek magazine defines a "best-managed'' manufacturing company as one that "excels not only financially but also sets the standard in areas of innovation, leadership, globalisation, alliances and partnerships, employee benefits and education, and community involvement.'' "If manufacturers want to thrive in today's global economy, it's not enough to simply concentrate on generating shareholder value, explained John Brandt, publisher of Industry Week.
"They also need to weave in corporate citizenship, industry innovation, and a genuine concern for the welfare of their employees. Each of our winners subscribes to the practices that we believe are crucial to long-term success.'' It is the second time Tyco has made the annual list. Its exact ranking is expected to be revealed today. A complete listing of all the companies as well as profiles of each will be in August 21's Industry Week magazine.
On July 18, Tyco reported a 38 percent increase in third-quarter earnings per share. They attributed the rise to strong sales in the company's telecommunications and electronics segments.
