TyCom prices IPO above range

cable and services, sold 61.13 million shares at $32 per share, above the estimated price range, in its initial public offering yesterday, the lead underwriters said.

Bermuda-based TyCom, a unit of Tyco International Ltd. , raised $1.96 billion in the deal. It was initially slated to offer 43.5 million shares, and later 54 million shares. The deal was boosted for a second time yesterday to 61.13 million shares.

The company had estimated that its shares would price at $26-$30 per share.

TyCom plans to use a small portion of the money raised in the IPO to deploy the first phase of the worldwide undersea fibre optic cable system, TyCom Global Network.
