Local UPS manager Eddie Lamb yesterday said he had to lay off staff as a result of the drop in local volume.

Mr. Lamb predicted there would be no further layoffs since the office, which usually staffs 12, was down to the "bare bones''.

Mr. Lamb said he hoped his workers would not be laid off for too long and vowed that they would be back to work as soon as the strike is over.
