And Baltimore, Maryland firm Martin Surfacing Inc. has been selected from the three companies which bid to do the work.

The selection was made by the Bermuda National Centre's Board of Trustees.

Board chairman Donald Lines said: "We have selected the right system and the right company for our project. Martin Surfacing's installation team has worked internationally including the Commonwealth Games, Goodwill Games and the Disney World Sports Complex in Florida.

"This same installation team will be working on the new track here in Bermuda.'' The work will result in Bermuda having an international calibre facility to IAAF standards. The track will be closed while work -- which is valued at $650,000 -- is ongoing. Mr. Lines said: "Our decision will provide Bermuda with an outstanding track for both training and competition. It will ensure that our young athletes have the opportunity to develop their potential in an international calibre facility.'' Five companies, including two Bermudian firms, attended a March 27 site familiarisation meeting at the stadium. Three of them submitted tender for the project by April 16.
