Youth summit set for weekend

This year's highlight will be a tribute to local young people who have made outstanding achievements in sports, academics, community affairs, or the arts.

The forums, discussion and entertainment will be televised live and hosted by Sherry J of Power 95 and Black Entertainment Television's Onjam Friend and DJ Mars.

Local celebrities taking part include Junior C, Twanee Butterfield, Trinity Sound Crew, Cia Spence, and Gina Spence Productions in Christ.

Tickets are $15 in advance and available at the Sound Stage in the Washington Mall. Tickets will be $20 at the door.

CIGARETTES STOLEN CRM Cigarettes stolen A thief smashed the front door of the Kit n'Caboodle store at the Bermudiana Arcade and stole 15 cartons of cigarettes early yesterday.

Police reported that the cigarettes were of a variety of brands and were valued at $29 each.

Six cartons of cigarettes were also stolen from the Collector's Hill Apothecary on South Road in Smith's Parish early on Tuesday.

Police responded to the alarm to find a glass door had been smashed.

CASH TAKEN FROM PURSE CRM Cash taken from purse Police reported that $50 was stolen from a purse in a Clarendon Road, Hamilton Parish home sometime on Monday. It is not known how the thief gained entry.

And an Acacia Lane, Sandys Parish home was broken into on Monday. But the thief appeared to have gone away empty handed. A side window had been forced open.

MAN FALLS OFF LADDER AC Man falls off ladder A painter at a Dockyard work site was taken to hospital on Monday when he fell from a ladder and suffered a suspected broken arm and leg.

Police and Fire Service emergency medical technicians went to the work site around 8.20 a.m. and provided first aid and took the man to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The man was on a ladder to paint a wall, but the ladder slipped and he fell, Police said.

TAXI SYSTEM TESTED TRA FLY Taxi system tested The new taxi traffic system at the Airport will come under examination this week.

The Department of Airport Operations will carry out a survey to determine the effectiveness of the system.

A spokesman said taxi drivers are being asked to use the old reversing-in system through April 25.

On April 26 they will revert to the present parallel parking system until further notice.

The survey is being conducted in conjunction with the Bermuda Industrial Union.

POLICE BIKE IN CRASH AC POL Police bike in crash Despite having its emergency equipment on, a Police motorcycle was in collision on Friday night with a private car on Amen Corner in Paget.

There were no injuries in the two-vehicle accident after the car turned onto Middle Road, Paget from Cobbs Hill Road.

Police report the officer on the cycle was responding to an emergency call and had on emergency lights, blue lights, and siren. The accident is under investigation.

THIEF TAKES REGISTER CRM Thief takes register A thief escaped with a cash register after a chase by Police officers early on Monday.

Police attended the report of a break-in at Pasta Basta restaurant on Elliott Street at 4.45 a.m., where someone had gained entry and made off with the register.

Other officers spotted an unknown male leaving the area on a motorcycle with a register in the basket. He was followed but got away.
