ACE now a very big deal at Lloyd's of London
London, the Bermuda-based insurer/reinsurer said yesterday.
The company's insurance interests at Lloyd's include two Ockham Worldwide Holdings Plc managing agencies and Methuen Group Ltd.'s managing agency.
Total underwriting capacity for the agencies is anticipated to total $1.25 billion in 1997 of which ACE will provide about $25 million to Ockham Worldwide syndicates and about $207 million to Methuen syndicates.
It was announced yesterday that ACE completed acquisition of Ockham Worldwide agencies from Ockham Holdings Plc and that the company had acquired the remaining 49 percent minority interest in Methuen.
ACE paid $32.6 million for Ockham Worldwide's agencies. In March, ACE bought 51 percent of Methuen. Methuen's price was undisclosed.
Bill Loschert, chairman of ACE's insurance operations at Lloyd's, said that ACE will use its strong position to "build a major international business entity rooted firmly in the Lloyd's market.'' Ockham Worldwide's aviation agency has changed its name to ACE London Aviation Ltd. and its non-marine agency has changed its name to ACE London Underwriting Ltd.
