ALARYS conference boosted by IFRIMA
The ALARYS meeting held in Bermuda later this year has been declared as the International Federation of Risk and Insurance Management Associations (IFRIMA) Designated Conference.
The event, which is being hosted in Bermuda for the second time, will take place at the Fairmont Southampton on October 11 to 13.
Chairman of the Bermuda Insurance Development Council (IDC) Allison Towlson said: "We were fortunate that the IFRIMA board met with us during the annual RIMS Conference in April and discussed this as a possibility.
"The IDC was thrilled that they agreed, and we expect this year's event to be even better than when we first hosted ALARYS in 2004 - which was also an IFRIMA Designated Conference."
IFRIMA is the international umbrella organisation for risk management associations (including RIMS and ALARYS), representing 23 organisations in more than 30 countries around the world.
As an "association of associations", IFRIMA's primary objective is to provide a forum for interaction and communications among risk management associations and their members.
Chairman of the ALARYS Bermuda Committee, Jill Husbands, said: "The Committee has been active in the planning of the event. It is a tri-lingual conference presented simultaneously in three languages. We are looking forward to the imminent arrival of the IFRIMA chairman and ALARYS president, Jorge Luzzi, who will be here this month for an advanced visit."
Mr. Luzzi said: "The IFRIMA board unanimously agreed to choose this event as the IFRIMA designated conference for 2010. This means that during the ALARYS Conference in Bermuda this October, we will have not only the traditional Latin American risk and insurance management community, but also people of the market from the USA, Canada, Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Africa.
"This represents not only a demonstration of confidence of the worldwide risk management community in ALARYS, but mainly confidence in Bermuda.
"We appreciate the accommodation of Bermuda, its government, and its insurance and reinsurance community. I believe the IFRIMA decision was also influenced by the friendly nature of the people of this beautiful country.
"The three spoken languages at the conference - English, Portuguese and Spanish - will enhance the internationality of the participants.
"We hope that we can together achieve our target of improving the technical knowledge in our profession, as well as expand our network with our partners: insurers, reinsurers and brokers.
"We expect to enjoy high quality presentations and an opportunity to network and exchange experiences with colleagues from all around the world through the educational sessions, panel discussions and other activities that have carefully been planned."
