Allied hires Gauthier as CIO

Allied World Assurance Company Holdings Ltd. has announced that John Gauthier, CFA, has joined the company as senior vice-president and chief investment officer.

In this new role, Mr. Gauthier will oversee the management of the company's investment portfolio, which is valued in excess of $6 billion, including investment strategy and analysis, risk management of the investment process, strategic asset allocation and oversight of the company's asset managers. Mr. Gauthier will report to Joan Dillard, Allied World's chief financial officer.

Ms Dillard said: "We are delighted to have John join the Allied World team. He brings with him a wealth of experience in both investment management and property casualty insurance. His unique blend of skills and expertise will enhance the management of our investment portfolio and further refine our risk management capabilities."

Previously, Mr. Gauthier was global head of insurance fixed income portfolio management at Goldman Sachs Asset Management from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that position, he was managing director and portfolio manager at Conning Asset Management where he oversaw investment strategy for all property and casualty insurance company clients.

Mr. Gauthier also served as vice-president at General Reinsurance/New England Asset Management, as well as a portfolio manager at General Reinsurance.
