Amlin Bermuda hires Murphy as new CFO

Amlin's reinsurance business Amlin Bermuda Ltd. has moved to strengthen its finance team with the appointment of Elizabeth Murphy as chief financial officer.

Ms Murphy, who has permanent residency in Bermuda with 30 years experience of working on the Island, will report to managing director Stuart MacKeller.

Mr. MacKeller, who started as managing director at Amlin three years ago, said she has been tasked with heading up the finance function and driving it forward in the future.

When he started out at the company the finance team was developing from its early days with the International Advisory Service and the function was brought in house and grew into 27 to 28 employees.

"It was time to bring in a bit more strength in depth and somebody of Elizabeth Murphy's stature with considerable experience was a great asset to have," he said.

"We are pleased that Elizabeth has elected to join Amlin Bermuda and believe her wealth of experience in the industry will help us to grow and manage our business effectively over the coming years." Ms Murphy was most recently a non-executive director of Kiln Ltd. (until May 2007), chair of the Compensation Committee and member of the Audit Committee. Since 2006 she has undertaken various consulting assignments, principally in the Bermuda insurance industry, and was also non-executive director of SCPIE Holdings Inc., until August 2007.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in London and working for them in Bermuda, Ms Murphy continued her career with Ace Tempest Reinsurance Ltd. as chief financial officer from 1993 to 2000 and as treasurer of Ace Ltd. for the next two years. From April 2002 to March 2006 she worked for Scottish Re Group Ltd., as chief financial officer and executive vice-president.

Amlin Bermuda Ltd. is a reinsurance business focused on catastrophe and property, which was established in November 2005 and is capitalised at $1.5 billion for 2008 and rated A (excellent) by AM Best, A by Standard & Poor's and A2 by Moody's.
