Arch Underwriting at Lloyd's has opened a new Australian office as part of the Arch Insurance Europe underwriting platform.

The new office, which is based in Sydney, will be managed by Adam Matteson, regional director for Australasia, with an initial focus on commercial property business.

James Weatherstone, president and CEO of Arch Insurance Europe, said: "The establishment of an Arch owned and managed underwriting platform in Sydney is a significant development for our Lloyd's syndicate.

"Our intention is to develop a book of indigenous commercial property business which is not typically seen by the London market. With Adam on board, we have a skilled technical underwriter with over 20 years experience in the Australian market."
