Assured files to sell shares

NEW YORK (Bloomberg) — Bermuda-based Assured Guaranty Ltd., the bond insurer backed by billionaire Wilbur Ross, filed to sell securities with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing didn't specify the size of any sale. The company said it may use proceeds to repay debt, expand underwriting or for acquisitions.

Assured Guaranty last week posted record earnings of $545.2 million because of unrealised gains on credit derivatives.

Net income amounted to $5.97 a share, up from $32.8 million, or 47 cents a share, a year earlier, the company said. Excluding the gain and other adjustments, Assured said it had profit of 42 cents share, matching the estimate management gave in July.
