Bermuda Press cuts 15 jobs in restructuring
Fifteen jobs will go as a result of the restructuring of the operations of commercial printing company Bermuda Press Ltd.
Jonathan Howes, chief executive officer of the firm's parent company, Bermuda Press Holdings Ltd. (BPH), said the redundancies would come over the next six weeks.
"BPH will work with staff, the union and the Department of Labour to ensure the redundant staff is integrated back into the Bermuda workforce as quickly as possible," Mr. Howes said yesterday.
The Island's biggest commercial printer, based in Addendum Lane, Pembroke, has felt the impact of changing business and consumer practices and its operations have been reviewed over the past nine months, Mr. Howes said.
"After examining several options, management has chosen a restructuring based on the ongoing challenges in the local economy, global trends towards digital distribution of information, availability of printed materials from overseas sources and how acceptance of the consumer of lower quality products has changed the printing industry in Bermuda," he said.
"The current restructuring will not affect the ability of the commercial print division to meet customers' print needs and that the commercial print division will continue to produce high quality products for its customers.
"The major changes will be a shift in how the commercial print division produces the print jobs and that it will extend its reach into digital technology to offer new solutions to customers."
BPH owns printing, media, retail and real estate interests in Bermuda, including The Royal Gazette Ltd., Crown House Properties Ltd., the Stationery Store and Pronto Print Ltd.
