BSX bucks the trend

The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index bucked the global stock market trend by gaining ground yesterday.

Butterfield Bank climbed 1.4 percent to help the BSX Index gain 16 points, or 0.57 percent, to close the day's trading on 2,820.65.

Butterfield, which has lost more than a quarter of its market value this year, gained 10 cents to $7.50, on the trading of 1,500 shares.

Insurer and pension provider BF&M Ltd. was the only other stock to trade and fell 10 cents, or 0.6 percent, to close on $16 as 1,000 of its shares changed hands.

BSX volume was 2,500 shares and turnover was $27,250.

The Bermuda Insurance Index of the Island's leading international insurance companies plunged 3.5 percent to 685.65.
