Butterfield appoints Sykes to head London unit

Butterfield Bank has announced the appointment of Raymond Sykes as managing director of its London-based subsidiary, Butterfield Bank (UK) Ltd.

In his new role, Mr. Sykes will have management responsibility for Butterfield's private banking operations in the UK.

Mr. Sykes joined the bank in September 2002, following 28 years with Clydesdale Bank in London and Scotland. He most recently held the posts of acting managing director and director and head of private banking at Butterfield.

Mr. Sykes is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, deputy chairman of the Bermuda Society and a Trustee of the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.

Bradford Kopp, Butterfield's president and CEO, said: "Raymond is a well-respected career banker who has done an outstanding job running our UK operations as acting managing director for the past five months.

"We are pleased that he has agreed to take on the role of managing director permanently. Our businesses and valued clients in London will continue to benefit from his leadership and expertise in private banking."
