Capital G reissues cards to 200 customers exposed to data breach

About 200 Capital G Visa credit card holders were affected by exposure to the Heartland Payment Systems data breach in the US, the bank has revealed.

Capital G has taken steps to contact all of its affected customers by telephone, put protective controls on customers' accounts to limit any potential fraud and re-issued credit cards, having been alerted to the issue on January 28, according to Anthony Hylton, vice-president of cards at Capital G Bank.

"The Capital G team responded quickly to the news of the credit card fraud and were vigilant in reaching each affected customer by telephone," he said. "We aimed to minimise the inconvenience to Capital G customers with all customers receiving re-issued Capital G Visa credit cards last week."

Last week, the Bank of Bermuda and Butterfield Bank warned its customers that their cardholder data may have been sent out to an unknown third party, with Heartland Payment Systems advising banks across the globe of a data breach that has compromised a reported 100 million Visa and Mastercard cardholders, as reported in The Royal Gazette.

Any Capital G customers with concerns about the data breach or credit card fraud can contact the bank's call centre at 296-6969 or email innovate@capitalg.bm
