Captive conference to focus on impact of crisis
Risk managers will be given an insight into what the global economic crisis means to their industry at the Bermuda Captive Conference held at the Fairmont Southampton hotel next month.
Several of the panel discussions will deal with emerging issues as a result of the current economic climate, including the widespread fall-out from the sub-prime debt and credit crises in the June 21-24 event.
The annual meeting will feature key note speaker captain Larry Brudnicki, the commander of the US Coast Guard ship that performed two dramatic rescues as portrayed in the movie "The Perfect Storm".
There will also be a session designed to provide risk managers with the tools they need during consideration of why they end up with specific insurance purchases.
A panel of consultants will focus on the use of quantitative processes and tools to support a variety of risk management practices, including: setting the right risk appetite for their company; valuing the impact of risks in their organisation; making the optimal risk financing decisions, such as setting the right limits and retentions, and the best use of their captives.
Delegates will obtain an understanding of practical applications of analysis on claims reserves, and additional uses to maximise the value they can deliver to their organisations. The session will also provide several significant, and proven, pre-loss and post-loss strategies.
Meanwhile, the collapse of the sub-prime mortgage industry and the ensuing crisis of confidence have exposed unforeseen weaknesses in a range of key investment vehicles that has de-stabilised otherwise strong corporations.
A panel of professionals across several disciplines will also provide a review and analysis of the types of claims being asserted, their frequency and severity, and the impact on various lines of coverage.
The panel will discuss considerations for captive and risk managers in light of unique claims and market conditions, including issues to be considered when selecting which programmes to place in a captive and how effectively to deal with reinsurers in the hardening market cycle.
