Communication the key topic at IAAP conference
How to be a better communicator will be the focus for the Bermuda Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professional's (IAAP) Annual Educational Conference held at the Fairmont Southampton hotel today.
The seminar will be led by facilitator Margaret McMullen and will look at a number of issues including how to create rapport, build trust and establish credibility, making an impact, how to have power and influence people, communicating with difficult people in tough situations and business and professional etiquette.
About 50 people are expected to attend the event, which runs from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Tina Wilson, president of the Bermuda Chapter of the IAAP, said herself and the other delegates were looking forward to learning how to improve their communication skills at the conference.
"Hopefully there is going to be a lot of interaction between Margaret and the delegates and lots of networking," she said.
"The aim of the conference is to help us to be a better communicator in whatever capacity.
"In order for anyone to be an excellent communicator, inter-personal skills are the most important thing and we value those skills at the IAAP because that is who we are.
"We work with executives every day and our inter-personal skills really need to be top-notch and so we hope that the administrators and administrative assistants will go back to their workplace to teach everyone how to be a better communicator."
