Cox off to the Caribbean for ILO meet
Bermuda's Minister in charge of labour relations jetted off to the Caribbean yesterday for a major regional conference organised by the International Labour Organisation.
Home Affairs and Public Safety Minister Paula Cox will join her Caribbean counterparts for the conference in Kingston, Jamaica.
A Government spokesman said: "This conference will provide an excellent opportunity for the Minister to network with fellow labour ministers and to discuss matters of mutual interest.
"Some of the topics to be discussed include ILO administration activities in the Caribbean, international labour standards and labour legislation and the options, challenges and strategies associated with modernising labour ministries.'' The spokesman added that Ms Cox and the other ministers will each give a presentation on new developments and highlights in labour relations in their respective countries.
The spokesman said: "Ministers will also receive reports on various issues of particular interest to the region that were discussed at the meeting of the International Labour Organisation last year in Geneva.'' But he added: "It is not anticipated that Bermuda will be sending a delegation to the Geneva meeting this year.'' Ms Cox did not return calls from The Royal Gazette .
