Destination Bermuda hires Ayo Johnson
Destination Publications has announced the appointment of Ayo Johnson as director of sales and managing editor of its flagship publication Destination Bermuda.
Mr. Johnson, owner of ThinkMedia, a Bermuda consultancy, and a former The Royal Gazette journalist, has acquired sole advertising sales rights and will also be responsible for all editorial.
The magazine is set for a revamp ahead of its 20th edition.
"We wanted to inject fresh energy into the publication," said Chris Ralston, president and CEO of Destination Publications. "Mr. Johnson was the end result of an exhaustive search of the considerable talent pool in Bermuda.
"He has the technical skills, a very strong work ethic and the type of fresh thinking we were looking for."
Mr. Johnson said: "Destination Bermuda is an excellent magazine, with a strong position in the market.
"We're looking forward to working with Chris and his team to take it to the next level."
He continued: "We plan to add more value for both our readers and advertisers by broadening the readership base and expanding advertising options so that more Bermuda businesses can participate and benefit from our unique positioning."
The magazine will retain its core focus as a guide for visitors to Bermuda, with a stronger business slant and editorial aimed at Bermudians and residents.
Destination Bermuda was the first of a number of Destination magazines published throughout the Caribbean.
The annual magazine is distributed primarily on airlines heading into Bermuda throughout the year and has a potential readership base of approximately 250,000.
