ForYou president sees strong local market for his products
Bermuda is a healthy market for ForYou Inc. personal care products, according to the South Carolina-based company's president.
The Island has shown "steady growth'' in its interest in ForYou products, said Dr. Winfred Holt, a dentist who founded the company eight years ago.
ForYou products have been available from Bermuda distributors for about seven years.
The company also offers entrepreneurs a chance to own their own businesses without facing high overhead costs, he said.
"Not everyone can start a business in an office but everybody can operate an in-home business,'' said Mr. Holt who visits the Island three or four times a year. "There is an ease of involvement.
"But the product has to be a good product,'' he added. "We have a network marketing concept and everyone can benefit.'' ForYou products range from vitamin and mineral supplements, to hair and skin care products -- there is even a dental care product.
Dr. Holt spoke Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Stonington Beach Hotel to about 100 people on the role his all-natural products play in a healthy lifestyle.
ForYou distributors act as agents for the companies products.
As a distributor sells more, he or she receives a higher percentage of their revenues.
"This is a source of additional income. For some it can become a prime source of income,'' he said.
ForYou divisional vice president Ms Debbie Burgess, said for her it is a "full-time job''.
Ms Burgess became the first ForYou distributor in Bermuda about seven years ago.
Today, there are about 35 Bermuda residents who distribute ForYou products amd about 350 residents regularly buy the products.
Dr. Holt, 59, who practised dentistry for 18 years before turning his attention to nutrition, said his focus on personal health goes back 30 years.
At that time, he decided he did not want to follow in the footsteps of several of his close family members who suffered from heart problems and passed away in their late 40s and early 50s.
"We are seeing heart disease, cancer, diabetes and many other ailments more prominent earlier in people's lives,'' he said. "But it does not have to be that way.
"We should feel good and have energy all the time,'' he said.
Prior to becoming a dentist, Dr. Holt's undergraduate studies were in chemistry at Wake Forest.
Prior to founding the company, he invited 30 friends and acquaintances to take part.
A dozen of those people formed the nucleus of ForYou.
Today, there are about 12,000 people associated with the company.
