Greymane hires Law as quantity surveyor
Greymane Contracting Ltd. announced the appointment of its new associate Geoffrey Law to the position of assistant quantity surveyor.
Mr. Law, who used to work for Woodbourne Associates Ltd., came to Greymane two months ago, and is one of very few Bermudians in the field of quantity surveying. In his new position, he will be responsible for tender submissions, post-contract pricing, and organising various payments.
Mr. Lay discovered the field after completing earning his bachelor of commerce degree from McMaster University.
"I've always been interested in construction-type work," said Mr. Law. "I was asking around, and I found that there aren't many Bermudians doing (quantity surveying). I haven't looked back since."
After deciding on the field, Mr. Law earned his masters of science in construction cost management from the University of Reading, and returned to the Island after graduating last year.
Mr. Law feels that not many Bermudians have chosen the field because not many Bermudians are aware of the opportunity.
"I think, as a job, it's not as publicised as other areas in construction," he said. "Not many people are thinking about it. World-wide, it's a similar situation."
Mr. Law chose to take the job at Greymane Construction both for the experience, and because he enjoys the environment.
"We have similar goals and ideals. They're a green company who are looking at the environment, and that matters to me," Mr. Law said. "All the doors are open."
While working for Greymane, Mr. Law is also working for membership to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and for registration as a full quantity surveyor on the Island.
