HSBC Bermuda charges inactivity fees in error

A number of HSBC Bermuda's Bermudacard account holders have been charged a monthly inactivity fee of $8 for the last two months despite using their account, due to a clearing house error.

The customers told The Royal Gazette that they had to contact the bank to get the charge reversed.

A spokeswoman for HSBC Bermuda said the bank was aware of the accidental charge on some of the accounts and was reversing the charges where applicable.

"The third party overseas credit card clearing house has been made aware of this error and are making the necessary corrections," she said. "We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused our valued customers."
