In a hearing before His Honour Mr Justice Briggs in the High Court in London, Hotel Cipriani (part of Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. was today awarded GBP1,571,091 million against Cipriani (Grosvenor Street) Ltd, the London restaurant and a further GBP6,068,736 million against Cipriani International SA of Luxembourg, both by way of an account of profits made from their acts of infringement of the trade mark "Cipriani" and of passing off. At a further hearing Mr Justice Briggs made an order to freeze the assets of Cipriani International SA on a worldwide basis. Cipriani SA is the parent company of the restaurant owning companies of the Cipriani family. This follows Hotel Cipriani's successful defence last week of an appeal by the Cipriani family against the decision of His Honour Mr Justice Arnold in the High Court in London in December 2008 in which he found for Hotel Cipriani in an action for trade mark infringement and passing off in respect of the mark ''Cipriani'' for restaurant services, against the operators of the restaurant 'Cipriani' London. The Court of Appeal refused leave to appeal to the Supreme Court. Cipriani (Grosvenor Street) Ltd today announced that it had filed for administration in the UK.
