KeyTech rockets 30%

Shares of communications company KeyTech Ltd. rocketed 30 percent yesterday to help The Royal Gazette / Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX) Index bounce off a five-year low.

KeyTech, owner of the Bermuda Telephone Company, climbed $3 to close on $13, as 4,500 of its shares traded.

That was sufficient to help the BSX index rise 60.57 points, or 2.1 percent, to finish on 2,917.7, after finishing the previous at its lowest level since December 2003.

Butterfield Bank was the only issue to decline, falling 10 cents, or 1.3 percent, to $7.90, as 2,020 shares traded.

LOM (Holdings) Ltd. remained on $3.80 after 3,150 shares traded. BSX volume was 9,750 shares and turnover was $80,235.

The BSX Insurance Index of the Island's leading international insurance companies had a grim day on the falling US markets, plunging 2.56 percent, to close on 733.33.
