Local mayors joins world conference
representing more than 25 countries.
Hamilton Mayor William Frith and St. George's Mayor Lois Perinchief were accepted as members of the World Conference of Mayors on July 9 in Washington DC.
The induction ceremony was attended by a delegation of about two dozen Bermudians and was hosted by Washington DC Mayor Marion Barry.
The event was part of a three-day trade summit entitled "Mayors and Ambassadors working together to build a United Nations of Cities by the Year 2000''.
This year's events are geared toward building international trade and investment opportunities.
During the summit, more than 150 mayors, ambassadors were treated to a variety of local entertainment including Gita Blakeney and the Allan Warner Gombeys.
Members of the Bermuda delegation hosted a four-day meeting at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort this week to discuss the Washington summit in detail.
