SAN FRANCISCO (Bloomberg) — Bermuda-based Marvell Technology Group Ltd., maker of the processor that runs BlackBerry smart phones, raised its revenue forecast for the quarter ending October 31 on higher demand "within multiple end markets".
Sales will be $760 million to $775 million for the fiscal third quarter, compared with a previous projection of $680 million to $730 million, Santa Clara, California-based Marvell said in a statement yesterday.
The company released a chip this month that allows electronics makers to add Internet access to devices such as Blu-ray players, televisions and refrigerators. Marvell and other chipmakers are taking aim at what they say will be the next area of growth for microprocessors.
