More than 6,000 cruise passengers will hit the Island's shores this week, shipping agencies reported yesterday.
Included in that number are 432 Japanese tourists on the Asuka which is due to arrive on Friday.
Described by John S. Darrell Ltd. spokesman Chris Garcia as a "one off visit'' the cruise liner is expected to be in local waters for just ten hours.
The Pacific Princess berthed yesterday morning in St. George's with 628 people while the late arriving Nordic Empress went to Dockyard late in the afternoon.
It's passenger count is not known at press time.
On Monday the Celebrity Cruise Lines ships Zenith and Horizon berthed in Hamilton with 1,432 and 1,411 people respectively.
The Horizon normally goes to St. George's first then shifts to Hamilton but because of bad weather on Monday will spend it's entire trip this week in Hamilton. Both ships will leave tomorrow.
Meyer Shipping and Freight also report the Norwegian Majesty arrived yesterday morning with an estimated 1,500 people and will sail on Friday.
Arriving on Friday afternoon will be the Crown Dynasty with 817 people. It will depart on Monday.
In container ship news the Oleander left yesterday morning after less 48-hours in port.
It landed 158 dry containers, 34 refrigerated, two trailers, two trailers with two helicopters for the Tall Ships race coverage, three dump trucks, one boat and bundles of steel.
The Bermuda Islander made its weekly run from Salem, New Jersey with 73 dry containers, 13 refrigerated, and one 40-foot container.
The normal size for containers is 20 feet and Meyer Shipping report the usual practice is to allow the oversize containers on the roads only for transportation to and from the docks.
