Mulderig joins board of Butterfield Fulcrum

Butterfield Bank chairman Robert Mulderig has been appointed to the board of Bermuda-based hedge-fund administrator Butterfield Fulcrum.

Mr. Mulderig, the former chief executive officer of Mutual Risk Management Ltd., is one of three appointments to the company's board announced yesterday.

Also unveiled were the appointments as directors of Dean Barr, former head of Liquid Alternative Investments for Citigroup Alternative Investments, and John Moore, past global head of investment banking at Morgan Stanley.

Butterfield Fulcrum was created last year when the Fulcrum Group merged with the funds administration business of Butterfield Bank, in which Butterfield retained a 40-percent ownership stake. The company services more than 700 funds and has 11 offices in nine countries (Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman, Guernsey, India, Ireland, UK and the USA). It describes itself as a top-five independent alternative fund administration company by assets under administration.

"Our firm strives to deliver unparalleled independence and transparency that serve the investor's need for risk assessment and the asset manager's desire to have a complete operational overview to determine the strength of their organisation," said Akshaya Bhargava, chief executive officer of Butterfield Fulcrum.

"Dean, John and Robert have experience from capital-raising to operational excellence and will work diligently to help properly allocate resources and keep our firm focused on reaching its potential."

Mr. Mulderig is also chairman of Woodmont Trust Company Ltd. and Woodmont Management Company Ltd. He is also a director of Macquarie Infrastructure Group International Limited and Macquarie International Infrastructure Fund.

Mr. Barr is currently principal of Southgate Alternative Investment Strategies. Prior to Southgate, Barr was with Citigroup Alternative Investments where he was initially head of Liquid Alternative Investments as well as CEO of Tribeca Global Management.

Prior to joining Citigroup, Mr. Barr was the founder and chief executive officer of Thunder Bay Capital Management, where he managed a multi-strategy hedge fund. Previously, Barr had been Global Chief Investment Officer for Deutsche Asset Management and Founder & Principal of Advanced Investment Technology (a quantitative investment management firm). Barr began his career with Goldman Sachs as a quantitative trading analyst and proprietary trader in the Equity Division.

Mr. Moore is a partner of 3i US Growth Capital, focusing on healthcare in North America and a member of the healthcare lead partner group, supporting 3i's healthcare investments globally. Prior to joining 3i, he was a managing director and the global head of Healthcare Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley where he covered the consumer, retail, industrial and financial sectors, as well as the Latin American region. Prior to that John practised corporate law at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.
