Stylish: Cafe 4 in Windsor Place, Hamilton, has a swish sushi bar.

City workers will be able to get everything from a full breakfast to a sandwich or sushi takeaway thanks to a new, state-of-the-art café which has just opened in the centre of Hamilton.

Café 4, which officially opened its doors at Windsor Place, between the Phoenix Stores and Washington Mall last month, offers a range of services from a stylish sushi bar, dishing up signature rolls and tempuras, and a mixed cuisine buffet, catering for Asian and Western tastes alike, which changes daily, to sandwiches and panini and even the well known Fourways home-made pastries and desserts.

And it has returned to its roots on the site of the original Fourways pastry shop, which was based there about 15 years ago.

There are also plans to redevelop the outdoor courtyard into a dining area surrounded by a water feature and fountain.

The new café also has a salad bar, complete with spinach and lettuce salads and various dressings, and a carvery, while, for the businessman on the go there is an express service, as well as a selection of beverages, with a full bar serving wine and cocktails.

Andreas Detzer, manager of Café 4, who set up the café along with managing director Emilio Barbieri and executive chef Tommy Poh, said the real beauty of the café was its flexibility, with customers having the option to mix and match with half a sandwich and a panini or a combination of different sushi dishes, in addition to a new look and feel.

"The first thing I would say that makes the café unique is the feel," he said. "When you come in here, everything has a modern look to it and it is different to the typical Bermuda look.

"On the menu side, we are trying to give people a lot more flexibility, so they can have half a soup or salad and mix and match."

Allied to that is a convenient location in the middle of the City, while the food is freshly made at Fourways Inn and delivered to the café, with the sushi prepared on site. In addition there are two plasma screen televisions, which can play four different channels at the same time, as well as a sound system to keep the clientele entertained while they dine.

Work started on the café 15 months ago and when the outside patio is fully built the whole place is expected to have seating capacity for 40 to 50 people.

"The feedback has been absolutely tremendous," said Mr. Detzer. "We hand out comment cards to customers and evaluate them to see how we can best serve our customers because we want to know what people want and what we could do better."

The café opens at 7 a.m., with breakfast between 7.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. and lunch take away from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the sushi bar is open for lunch on Monday to Friday between 11.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the week and 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays.

Café 4 will be holding a happy hour on Thursday and Friday between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., with all items costing $5, as well as drink specials and free snacks.
