New pharmacy opens in Dockyard
West End residents and cruise ship tourists will be able to get everything for their medical needs after a new pharmacy officially opened in Dockyard yesterday.
Dockyard Pharmacy, which is The Phoenix Stores Ltd.'s fifth retail venture in the past three years, will be launched with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today, with the likes of Premier Ewart Brown in attendance.
The drugstore, which is the only one of its kind in Dockyard and has been up and running since Thursday last week, will be based in one of the area's most historical buildings - The Mast Stores of the Naval Royal Dockyard, which dates back to 1857 and was originally used as a storage facility for ships.
"We are excited about the opening in Dockyard, as it heralds our commitment to providing needed services to both locals and visitors alike," said George Grundmuller, president and CEO of The Phoenix Stores.
"Our Market research over the past 18 months has indicated that there is a strong need for our services in the West End and this new venture affords us the opportunity to effectively serve cruise ship passengers."
The 6,000 square-foot shopping venue was designed by a US-based, retail store designer and followed strict building guidelines in order to maintain the building's original character and charm. The pharmacy's modern interior includes a private consultation booth designed to offer customers a more personal experience.
The newly-designed store offers everything from health and beauty aids to books, newspapers and magazines, greeting and post cards, fashion jewellery and handbags, designer sunglasses, beach gear, and souvenirs and gifts. In addition, it stocks a range of snacks and soft beverages, as well as beer and wine, and the latest selection of digital cameras.
The new Dockyard store will also house a new convenience cafe area, where customers will find ready-to-go foods like sandwiches, salads and sushi, and a selection of freshly brewed specialty coffees and pastries, ice cream, fresh fruit smoothies and other delicacies, which will be run by Buzz Cafe.
"We invite our customers to come see their new drugstore which offers an exceptional selection of prepared foods, quality perishable and non-perishable products, and a friendly staff dedicated to a high level of customer service," said Mr. Grundmuller.
Dockyard Pharmacy is open from Monday to Sunday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The pharmacy hours are Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays and holidays between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.
A grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday May 9 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will include entertainment, food sampling, prizes, giveaways, and face-painting activities for children.
