A record number of 18 Bermudians earned the Chartered Accountant designation this year.

John Wight, chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda (ICAB), said the number was the highest recorded in ICAB's 37-year history.

Doug Baker, FCA, chairman of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, was in Bermuda last week to congratulate Bermuda's newest CAs, CPAs and ACA at the annual convocation.

Mr. Wight said: "Last week we heard Home Affairs Minister Burch encourage Bermudians to seek further education if they want to succeed in the workforce.

"ICAB supports the Minister's comments and is pleased that through education and commitment, these 18 young Bermudians and six students who studied and challenged the Uniform Final Examination from abroad, but now reside in Bermuda, have achieved the most highly recognised professional accounting designation in the marketplace.

"ICAB is proud of Bermuda's newest CAs who will someday become our business leaders of tomorrow".
