Royal Majesty vibration to be fixed
vibrations from a cruise ship which residents claim are giving sleepless nights and even knocking pictures of walls.
In July residents in the Convict Bay area started a petition to get action preventing the vibrations from the Royal Majesty when she was berthed in St.
George.
Since then, the operators Majesty Cruise Line have conducted a series of tests including the latest by an expert from Lloyds Register.
His report pinpointed the ship's exhausts as the cause of the problem and Majesty said yesterday it is to spend $100,000 fitting four new silencers.
The parts have been ordered and the work will be carried out when the ship is in dry dock after the summer season ends.
The expert from Lloyds said it was not the loudness of the noise that was causing a problem, but the tone. "A tonal noise frequency can cause even low level noise to be intolerable,'' says his report.
It adds: "The results of the noise survey in the residential area indicated that whilst the overall noise levels were not considered high, annoyance was caused by the tonal nature of the noise.'' Majesty Cruise Line has written to the Director of Tourism, Mr. Gary Phillips, outlining their plan.
