Tennis star Thuell is Hiscox's first Bermudian graduate trainee

Bermudian national team tennis player Nicholas Thuell is the first Bermudian trainee to be enrolled in Hiscox's graduate scheme

Mr. Thuell joined specialist insurer Hiscox in October as a trainee underwriter and has started the two-year graduate scheme, which will culminate in him joining the reinsurance underwriting team in the company;'s Bermuda office.

Born in Bermuda and brought up in the Caribbean and the US, Mr. Thuell graduated from the University of North Carolina Asheville in 2008 with a BA in Economics, following it up in 2010 with an MA in Applied Economics from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. A keen tennis player, Mr. Thuell represented Bermuda in the 2009 Davis Cup.

Initially, he will be based in Hiscox's London office and has started his first placement within the catastrophe modelling team. After a number of placements both within the UK and other overseas Hiscox offices, he will return to Hiscox Bermuda to take up an underwriting role.

Mr. Thuell said: "This is an extraordinary and unique opportunity to both join a leading re/insurance company in a varied and dynamic underwriting role, while being able to return to take up a career in Bermuda.

"The Hiscox graduate scheme is a two year programme designed to provide a deep insight into a wide variety of functions within the business. I already feel that I am contributing to the work of the catastrophe modelling team here in London and am looking forward to the challenges ahead."
