Role: IBM system engineer

What is your job? To provide first and second level technical software support to local companies running IBM's midrange Power Systems (AS/400s).

What is your favourite part of the job? Developing and/or maintaining customer relationships. Building and configuring new systems from the 'ground up'. Helping someone with a problem, a concept or while training and watching their face when they finally 'GET IT'. It's a light bulb moment!

What is the least favourite part of the job? Operating system upgrades. Preparation is the key to a successful upgrade. Anticipation is a killer.

What is your most interesting experience at work? Responding to an emergency call and being hugged by the customer.

What would you be doing otherwise? Photojournalist.
