Role: Assistant underwriter, Allied World

What is your job? I work in the healthcare department at Allied World providing hospital professional liability insurance (more popularly known as medical malpractice insurance) for US-based hospitals.

What is your favourite part of the job? Visiting hospitals and learning about all the latest technology, as well as attending industry-related seminars.

What is your least favourite part of the job? It's frustrating when I spend a lot of time working on an account, learning about their operations, and in the end the client decides not to buy insurance. Initially this would bother me, but since I am relatively new to the industry it's actually good underwriting practice.

What is your most interesting experience at work? Reading medical malpractice claim descriptions is definitely the most interesting part!

What would you be doing otherwise? Initially I thought I wanted to be a dentist but science wasn't my strongest subject in school.
