US Chamber boss to speak in Bermuda

Tom Donohue: CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce

US Chamber of Commerce president and chief executive officer Thomas Donohue will speak on the state of business in the US at a Bermuda Chamber of Commerce seminar on Friday.

Mr. Donohue, a fierce critic of the policies of the Obama administration, will be talking about what is in store for Bermuda's biggest trading partner over cocktails at the session hosted in the Ace Building, 17 Woodbourne Avenue, Hamilton on Friday at 4 p.m.

The discussion forms the second part of a series on economics, this time looking at the fortunes of the Island's businesses intertwined with the economic health of the US.

Mr. Donohue heads the world's largest business federation, representing three million companies, associations, state and local chambers, and American chambers of commerce abroad.

Since assuming his post in September 1997, Mr. Donohue has increased the organisation's membership, tripling its budget, and expanding its influence in Washington and around the world.

He has promised the US Chamber will carry out "the largest, most aggressive" campaign in its 100-year history as it works to influence the outcome of mid-term congressional elections and stop legislation it views as harmful to the economy.

"As Americans choose a new House and senators this fall, the Chamber will highlight lawmakers and candidates who support a pro-jobs agenda and hold accountable those who don't," Mr. Donohue said earlier this year.

The session is free to Chamber members.
