Bank warns clients against fraudulent e-mail

The Bank of Bermuda has warned its customers to be on their guard about a fraudulent email attempting to get hold of their personal details and access their account.

The email claims that someone has been detected trying to get into the customer's account, which has since been closed to ensure its safety.

It advises the customer to log on to the account and follow a link to verify it.

The bank said it is aware that some of its customers have received a fraudulent email asking them to log on to a fraudulent website and provide personal financial information.

"The public should note that phishing emails along with other fraudulent emails are constantly circulating," said a bank spokesperson.

"In this instance, the bank acted immediately and working with the appropriate security authorities disabled the site.

"We would like to advise our customers that any requests received via email to validate personal information should be declined at all times.

"Under no circumstances would Bank of Bermuda send emails requesting customers to confirm debit/credit card numbers, account numbers along with their personal log on information."

Any clients who responded to the fraudulent email and provided personal information are advised to immediately contact the bank's call centre at 299 5959.
