OBMI to develop hotel in Haiti
OBM International has joined forces with Rolando Gonzalez-Bunster of Basic Energy Ltd. and WIN Group to develop a hotel with conference facilities in Haiti.
The new hotel will be directly adjacent to Port-au-Prince's Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport.
The $33 million project, which will be designed by OBM International, which has offices in Bermuda and throughout the Caribbean, will be developed on a 5.3-acre site, and will be completely self-contained, with on-site power plant, water treatment, sewage and related facilities.
The site allows for future development, specifically commercial office and retail outlets.
The amenity rich, seven story property will be the first for the Haiti Initiative professional group, organised by OBM International in order to provide one-stop services for the reconstruction and redevelopment process in Haiti.
"We are pleased with the opportunity to be part of such an integral project," said Douglas Kulig, CEO of OBM International. "The hotel will be elegant, with a distinct Creole feel in order to provide its guests with an authentic and inclusive experience."
Bill Clinton, UN Special Envoy to Haiti and co-chair of the Interim Haiti Reconstruction Commission, said: "Our goal is to encourage long-term sustainable investment in Haiti.
"An adequate network of hotels is crucial to the country, and this venture is one example that the numerous facets needed to rebuild Port Au Prince are slowly getting under way."
