PartnerRe estimates Gustav losses up to $45m

PartnerRe Ltd. yesterday announced that it expects to receive claims for between $25 million and $45 million for losses caused by Hurricane Gustav, according to the company's prelimary estimates.
The Bermuda reinsurer said its loss loss estimate was based on the assessment of individual treaties as well as client data and is spread across the US, Global (non-US) specialty and catastrophe sub-segments.
PartnerRe said the loss estimate will be refined as additional information is received from cedants.
Hurricane Gustav peaked as a category three hurricane as it moved across the Caribbean, hitting Hispaniola, Jamaica, and Cuba, and the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall in the US on September 1, about 70 miles west of New Orleans.
