Samsung upgrade

SEOUL, South Korea (Bloomberg) - Samsung Electronics Co., the world's second-largest semiconductor maker, plans to spend 1.05 trillion won ($1.05 billion) to upgrade its memory-chip manufacturing lines and expand capacity.

The investment will be made in 2008, Suwon, South Korea- based Samsung said in a regulatory filing yesterday, citing a board decision. It is part of this year's spending plan first announced in January.

South Korean companies are required to disclose investment plans that exceed 100 billion won.
