Stafford Flooring goes green
Stafford Flooring is doing its bit for the environment by pledging to plant a tree for every wood floor it sells.
As part of its Going Green for Good policy, the company has launched the Bermuda Cedar Programme, meaning that for every purchase of wood flooring a customer makes, it will donate one cedar sapling to be planted at one of Bermuda's parks.
The company will be working with the Department of Parks on the initiative and will initially plant the cedars at Astwood Cove Park.
On a quarterly basis, the company will advise the Department of Parks of how many purchases of wood flooring have been made, with staff then planting the saplings on behalf of Stafford's customers.
"Last summer, we announced our Going Green for Good policy," said Randy Stafford, president of Stafford Flooring. "We committed to creating a local initiative that would give back to the environment.
"By donating cedar saplings to be planted locally, we hope to raise awareness of sustainable and renewable building practices, as well as contribute to a 'greener' Bermuda."
Glenn Blakeney, Environment and Sports Minister, said: "The Ministry of the Environment is very pleased to see a Bermudian business making the local environment a priority. When everyone does their part in endeavouring to be good corporate citizens, we all benefit.
"We look forward to seeing the cedar saplings planted this year and we wish Stafford Flooring success with their Bermuda Cedar Programme."
